Friends and Comfy Old Shoes

Traveling friends...so many trips together.

Theo, JR and Kevin. USC football, Dodger games, La Barca Restaurant, and trips to Keanae--these were his buddies.

These are Kevin's brothers, and Joey became the seventh brother. (Mark is missing here). These guys could play Risk all night long and for days running; Melissa also let them play Nerfball wars INSIDE her house. They loved Melissa.

Josh was one of Joey's best Maui friends, then housemates in LA as their careers were launched. Joey hated, then loved, that imperious dog. Beautiful Rachel came on the scene about that time.

Jim and Mackenzie, a special couple for Rachel and Joey. Three of them Maui expats, they could talk pidgen and surf together.

Joey gathered friends like the rest of us gather shoes. But the old, comfy ones with a bit of dirt on them were his favorites. And he liked having them nearby so he could slip them on spontaneously, without much effort. He traveled miles with those good, sturdy friends and they were there to say goodbye to him at the end of his journey. They are the best kind of friends and we love them all.

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

I am looking at the time you posted, if you were in Maui you would not have gone to bed yet! Great pictures, happy times. With the family and love you have it must be a blessing from God. I do know the lonely, however. Have a wonderful spring kind of day.

these pictures are SO special. i never saw the one of the 4 of us @ Joe & Rachel's road-trip send-off and I love it! precious, precious memories we will cherish forever and more. my thoughts have gone often to Joe(y) these past couple weeks and to your family as well. thinking of you, praying for you, hugging you from afar. enjoy your time with our Rachel. Jim & I are going to a Dodger game on the night of the 23rd and will be remembering our beloved and never-to-be-forgotten friend. i thought a "doyer" celebration was fitting around this time.

love to you,
Mackenzie

I like it all and how you see it through the shoes so comfortably worn.

We are USC fans and we have Carolina. Just love your football coach!

I love, love, love the photos you posted. Thank you so much for the honor of making the header photo! That was truly a great memory, and one of the most amazing sunsets I've experienced in my life: Yosemite. I remember we felt so absolutely carefree and excited about our roadtrip journey ahead. Love you, love the posts, and thank you so much for everything you share.
